U.S. Congress: “The World Wild Web: Examining Harms Online”

NCMEC

NCMEC provided testimony during a hearing of the United States House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade. The testimony included updates on reporting trends, emerging threats, and NCMEC’s support of proposed legislation—the TAKE IT DOWN Act, the STOP CSAM Act, and others—to address online harms, including the use of generative artificial intelligence to exploit children. NCMEC also called for age assurance responsibility to be shared by online platforms, app store operators, and parents using effective parental controls.

NCMEC’s written testimony and a video recording of the full hearing are available at https://energycommerce.house.gov/events/commerce-manufacturing-and-trade-subcommittee-the-world-wild-web-examining-harms-online.
